Beginners’ Guide to Planning Your RV Routes and Places to Stay (Part 2)

planning your RV routes

In our previous post, we talked about simple but helpful tips on planning your RV routes and which places you and your family can stay during your RV trips. Find out more important factors you need to consider.

4. Use your paper map to plan your route.

Although it is very convenient to use GPS or your phone to get the best route to your next stop, always carry a map with you in case you go through areas where cell service and internet connection are weak. You can take note on the map how long you will spend in each location before you move on, and the places you want to see in each town. Don’t forget to carry a compass, too. You’ll never know when you’re gonna use it.

5. Find the right campsites.

You may not always want to rent a space in campsites. Maybe you want to go camping on your own. So plan these places ahead of schedule, so you don’t go about looking for a place to park in the middle of the night. There are a lot of apps that can help you find the nearest campsite you can park your RV in and stay for a few days or weeks. Or, as I mentioned earlier, it will help if you plan out your route and destinations ahead of time. This way, you won’t have to waste time guessing and experimenting.

6. Take note of gas stations, dumping sites, and refilling stations.

Download apps that will help you find these places nearby or better yet, research it before embarking on the next leg of your journey. The last thing you need is be in the middle of the road, out of gas, with the next station miles away.

You also need to be responsible about dumping the wastes and refilling your water supply. Most paid campsites will provide these, but you may have to do the dumping and refilling yourself, so make sure that you are prepared for that experience because dumping can get dirty and it’s not for the squeamish. If you can’t handle that, you can always pay someone else to do it for you.

Once you’ve got all these tips on planning your RV routes covered, and you have a general idea on where you’re going, what you want to see and where you will stay, there’s really nothing holding you back from fulfilling your dream of living the RV life and exploring many different places.
